The Challenge
Hangry Kitchen is a restaurant with a strong commitment to sustainability. This commitment is reflected in our menu, which features 75-80% locally sourced ingredients. Their focus on local helps them reduce their carbon footprint while supporting local businesses. However, it is a challenge getting locally-sourced food during the winter, so they are heavy on meat and fish during that time.
The Approach
By being part of the community in their own way, Hangry Kitchen shops at local farm markets and supports local community agriculture.
By The Numbers
Since it started November 21st, in 2023. This program has made a significant impact in the number of farmers it has patronized.
- Number of local farms used for dairy: 3
- Number of local farms used for meat: 3
- Number of local farms used for fish: 5
- Number of local farms used for veggies: 10

Support our businesses.
Hangry Kitchen works to ensure that farmers have land to farm in Rhode Island and prioritizes local food, being part of the community, and giving back to the community.
Program Description
Statement of Impact
This program directly impacts the local community by buying from twelve different farmer’s markets in Rhode Island.
Statement of Changes
Rhode Island is better off with a restaurant like Hangry Kitchen because it supports local farm markets by sourcing ingredients exclusively from them, supporting community efforts such as dog adoption partnerships and seasonal activities, and providing customer-driven but unique food options.
Future Plans
Currently in its pilot phase, Hangry Kitchen plans over the next few years to deepen its involvement in the local neighborhood, open a second location in Pawtucket, and expand its partnerships with more farmers to further strengthen Rhode Island’s food system.
