The Surplus Food Donation Work Group is calling for participation from Rhode Islanders to support their goal of passing legislation for a tax credit for businesses that donate surplus food.
The group aims to help make excess food donation a common practice among Rhode Island businesses – it will help strengthen food and nutrition security AND environmental sustainability here in RI while supporting local businesses.
There are currently two TAX CREDIT FOR FOOD DONATION bills: S517 and H5803, which were introduced for the first time in 2023. These bills did not pass into the Governor’s budget or RI State Law. Your support is essential in getting this legislation reintroduced in 2024!
