RIFPC meets with McKee policy staff on 2023 legislative priorities

On January 25, RIFPC Chair Thea Upham, Board President Diane Lynch, and Network Director Nessa Richman met with policy staff of Governor McKee, Policy Advisor Kelly Crawley, and Deputy Director of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs, Jason Natareno. 

RIFPC shared the network’s policy priorities for 2023, emphasizing the need for the Governor to amend his budget to include funding for farmland protection. There was also discussion on the value of having Healthy School Meals for All, strong composting regulations and supports, and a tax incentive for businesses that donate edible food to be distibuted to people in need. 

RIFPC 2023 POLICY PRIORITIES:

  • Preserve and protect agricultural land
  • Ensure access to affordable, culturally-appropriate food for all people
  • Promote climate-smart, environmentally sustainable practices
  • Support a vibrant and just local food economy
  • Preserve and support commercial fisheries
