A Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land called Rhode Island today, the Narragansett, Niantic, Nipmuc, and Wampanoag nations.

We recognize the Indigenous continuance, contributions, and stewardship of this land since time immemorial. We recognize and honor the kinship relationships between tribal nations and their relationship with the land, waters, and all living things. We pay our respect to their elders past, present and emerging.

A land acknowledgement cannot fulfill all needs or goals. However, it is important to start somewhere. We strive to include and empower Indigenous voices, nations, organizations, and people as well as Indigenous-led campaigns for environmental justice, land and water rights and ultimately land return to Indigenous nations.
